There is really no point where you would need to replace the resin. If you are maintaining with back flushing and regeneration and storing properly you should be fine. One reason you may have to replace is if you spill the resin. Another is if when winterizing you do not get all the water out the resin beads may freeze, causing you to need to replace resin. Just an FYI, if you need to replace the resin, do not remove the whole top as it is a pain to get back on correctly, there is a fill port and it may take a minute to fill using a funnel, but it is easier than having a hard time putting the whole top back on.
